Art Camp

Art Camp for 10-14 year olds

Beginning Wednesday, July 16, 10 a.m. until noon,
art camp will begin for 6 10-14 year olds in the Carroll County area.
Camp will run for four consecutive Wednesdays at the same time.

Students will learn:
color mixing,
brush strokes,
composition,
perspective,
shading and highlighting,
landscapes,
still life,
abstract,
use of color,
and so much more.

Students will complete many drills,
studies, practices
and complete a minimum of two 20" x 16" paintings during the four weeks.

This is one of the two paintings that will be completed.

This is a fun, funky, abstracty type of painting
I think teens and tweens would enjoy painting.

In this painting there are many lessons to be learned,
such as:
planning out how a painting is put together,
blending techniques,
many different brush strokes,
how to create depth,
and how to use art principles they learn in a completed work.

The four classes are $100 and can be paid at one time,
or in installments.
Art camp is a four week commitment because we will build on concepts from week to week.  It will be difficult to catch up if a class is missed, so I hope your student will make the four week commitment and come, enjoy and learn from this once a year opportunity.

I am only accepting six students, and I have a few seats left.

Please email me at slgraves6@gmail.com if you're interested.
Registration and prepayment are required for all classes,
but I have a special program to pay for this class.

Painting Classes for 5-9 year olds

Mom, Monet and Me.

Five to nine year olds will have a special class just for them and a parent
at River Run Gallery beginning in July.
Mom, Monet and Me is designed to give a quality art experience for a child under the direction of artist/gallery owner, Sharon Graves and their parent.
The student will learn about color mixing,
different types of art creation,
brush strokes and many other concepts.

I've been researching and practicing several projects to begin this program
Thursday, July 17 from 10 - 11 a.m.

This is a really fun painting because it uses a lot of different techniques
to create.  This can be done in different colors if you think your child would rather have a different color scheme.

You and your child will have the opportunity to spend some quality time together,
create some great art and have fun.

This is a past student learning to shade and highlight an apple.

I will supply everything your child needs to complete a lesson or art project during each class except for a cover up for each of you, which I highly recommend.

Cost is $25 per lesson and registration and prepayment are required.
Space is limited to four adults and four children per class.

You can contact me at slgraves6@gmail.com
or 502-523-0663 to register or prepay.

You can read about all classes here

Planning For the Future

Planning For the Future

Planning for the future sounds like estate planning or some other
necessary but boring procedure.

Nothing boring going on here.

I'm busily planning for classes and events for July and August for
River Run Gallery and Fun Art Studio.

I hope the gallery will become a real beehive for art learning
so I'm planning for that future.

At the top of the blog, beneath the main picture, there are some pages.
One describes all the classes, times, dates and prices,
and there is another tab or page named calendar of classes and events,
that breaks it down so you can mark your calendar.

You can reserve your spot or your child's spot by calling 502-523-0663
for reservations, check availability or pre-pay.

I'm having one art camp this summer on 4 consecutive Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until noon beginning July 16, 23, 30 and Aug 6.  This will be a great class for your teen or tween where they will learn many basic art concepts, practice them, do studies and complete a painting or two.  I supply everything you need except an apron, $100 for all 4 weeks.

Should be a pretty fun summer.

Don't get left out.

Adult painting class
Tuesday July 15, 6-9 p.m. $40

 Tues, July 29, 6-9 p.m. $40

Getting the Elephant Off the Ground

Do I Look Like an Elephant?

River Run Gallery
and Fun Art Studio

Opening up a new business is not for the faint of heart.  There are so many details, and every time I think I have a handle on it and am closing in on the end, the end moves and more details rear their elephant like head.

Lease, paint, carpet, lights, shelving, signs, licenses, tax numbers, art hanging system, artists, forms for everything, tables, chairs, business cards, bags, email address, blog, website, calendar of events for July, business plan, are you getting the idea yet.

I'm ticking off detail after detail and we are on target to have the building turned over to us by July 1 and I have a tentative, wait I better put that in great big caps, TENTATIVE grand opening date of Wednesday, July 9 at 10 a.m. with an opening reception and meet the artists night that same night from 6 -8 p.m.

I have about a zillion glass shelves to clean.  I should be done sometime in 2015.  Just kidding.  But there's a lot of glass shelves to display some really great art beautifully.

Pencil us in for July 9, or you can use a brush.  (A little artist humor).

Scrapin and grinnin workers taking up the old floor.

Mike Russell, contractor and Bill Broberg, building owner talking about that new vanity.

The view from the back deck.  You'll probably see me painting there sometime.

Husband Jim givin y'all a big Hellooooo!

Check back in a few days to see what's going on with that list.

Leave a comment or share on facebook or pinterest and your name goes in the hat for one of my demonstration paintings I did while teaching a class.

You know you want one!

In The Beginning. . .

Ya Gotta Start Somewhere

And I'm starting right here, right now.  Welcome to the first post of the River Run Gallery blog.  Hopefully it will be a FUN experience for us all.

I'll introduce new artists in the gallery here, have a calendar of events, painting tips and instruction and all things about art in Carrollton, KY and surrounding areas.

We are not officially open so I will keep you up to date on the progress we make.  I do know there are lots of details that need to be taken care of and I'm trying to cross them off my list every day.

  •  Licenses - check,
  •  paint and carpet selections - check,
  •  new domain name purchased - check,
  • lighting purchased - check
  • logo - check
  • signage - check
  • art hanging system - check
  • floor plan layout - check
  • glass shelving purchased - check
  • new bank account - check
  • insurance - check
  • new email address - check
  • new website - check
  • new blog - check
You're starting to get the picture, right.  I would like to paint, but I still have lots of things to check off my list.

449 Main has seen a flurry of activity in the last few weeks and things are starting to shape up.  I bought a really nice wooded card rack on craigslist and it arrived today.  My basement is filling up with glass shelving and hardware and things I need to move to my new second floor studio.

You see that metal balcony?  Behind those doors will be where the magic takes place for me.  "I love magic".

Leave me a comment and share this on facebook or pinterest and your name goes in the hat for my demonstration painting for my very first class, the sunflower painting.  It's a 20" x 16" acrylic on a stretched canvas I did as I taught the class.

The one I'll be giving away is the one on the easel.  I'll let Julie keep hers.  I'll be giving it away the week I open up, which right now I'm hoping for July 9.  Looking forward to y'all stopping in to see the new gallery and later that night coming to the opening reception.  This should be fun.
