Three In A Jar Paint Along Class

Three In A Jar Paint Along Class

Boy did we have fun tonight in our paint along class!

This was a challenging painting and these ladies
 rose to the occasion.

Debbie and Sandy working on their painting.

Debbie is mixing paint for her ball jar.

 You go girl.

 See how great they did.
That's my painting in the middle.

I'm very proud of these ladies.  They both said they thought they could paint, but never really had.
I think they're hooked!

This could have been you!
Hopefully next time it will be.

We'll be painting this fun painting Tuesday, August 5, from 6-9 p.m.  Cost is $40 and I supply everything you need to complete this painting except an apron.

Shoot me an email at
slgraves6@gmail.com if you want to sign up,
or call me at 502-523-0663.

Registration and pre-payment are required.

You're gonna love painting this.

Lovebirds

Art Camp
And Love Birds

We've been in art camp two weeks so far
And we are having a ball.

Today we worked on brush strokes as you can see the many different strokes on their papers.  They worked on single and double loading their brushes, used #12 down to a #3 flat and rounds of various of sizes.

They needed to paint a tree with some swirly branches so we practiced them for a while.  They had done some great rainbow skies and they were adding the trees with some love birds sitting in a branch as the final step.

Here they are putting their trees on their rainbow skies.

Here are their completed paintings.

I am so proud of them!  They did such a great job.

The idea for this painting came from a video I saw on You Tube

Classes From Last Week

You Too Can Paint

If You Can Listen and Follow Directions,
You Can paint!

Last week all these brave souls, came to River Run Gallery
and completed these paintings.

The photo on the left is from an adult painting class where I supply everything you will need to complete a painting.  The middle photo is of art camp for 10-14 year olds.  They learn new art concepts each week and then put those concepts into practice while they complete two large paintings during the four week course.  The photo on the right shows our first Mom, Monet and Me class where in just under an hour these young ladies completed these paintings.

I know you're sitting out there thinking, "yes,
 but,
 I can't draw,
I don't have any talent,
I can't paint."

STOP!

I'm serious, if you can listen and follow directions
You can paint any of these paintings.

I'm selecting subjects that are age and ability appropriate
and I'll be right there with you every step of the way.

What's coming up?

 Three In A Ball
is a really fun 16" x 20" painting.
I know, you're worried about that glass and water.
You will be amazed at how easy this will be.
I love the color and vibrancy of this painting.
You will learn lots of art concepts while doing this painting.
Tuesday, July 29 from 6-9 p.m. at River Run Gallery.
$40 for everything you need to complete this.

Up Close and Personal

Can be done in colors of your own choosing.
This fun and super easy painting may be just perfect for a first-timer
so give this some thought and give me a call at 502-523-0663
or shoot me an email at slgraves6@gmail.com.

This will be taught Tuesday, August 12 from 6-9 p.m.
$40.

Registration and prepayment are required to assure I have enough supplies.

Struttin Like a Rooster

Struttin Like A Rooster

My adult classes are having fun and this week we painted a rooster
struttin his stuff.

Kim is working on creating a barn wood and hay background.
She had to put it on it's side while the edges dried.
We painted on wrapped canvas so we painted all the edges.

Here she is painting her rooster.

We had lots of fun at River Run Gallery and Fun Art Studio this week.
There was lots of fun happening.
You should have been there.
Kim's completed painting of a great rooster.

Her apron kind of looks like she has her painting hanging around her neck.
You can tell she loves these colors.

Look at that dimply smile!
(Is that a word, dimply?)

Here's what we're painting Tuesday, July 29 from 6-9 p.m.
I provide everything you need to complete this fun 16" x 20" painting except an apron for $40.

Yes, you really can paint glass and water.

Please call me to register and pre-pay at 502-523-0663.

Learning to Paint

with Mom at my side.

Here is Elle working on her checkerboard

Abby was a little worried about the paint,
but she perservered.

London and her mom finishing up her checkerboard

They are all working so hard!

They each did a super job.  Look at those swirlies to go along with those smiles.

They got them on there like little pros!
They were finished in just under an hour.

Very proud of my first class of 5-9 year olds.
These girls are 5, 6 and 7 years old.

You and your child can be here next month.
Wednesday, August 13 from 4:30 til 5:30.

I haven't selected the painting yet,
but I know it's going to be fun.

The cost of these classes is $25 and I only take 4 children
and their adult helpers.

Learning About Color

Can You Ever Know Too Much About Color?

I'd have to say a big fat NO!

There is always more to know about color.
We just scratched the surface in art camp today.

Meet Hannah as she makes her own color wheel in art camp today.

Alex is also making her color wheel today.
Alex has been to camp before, so she has made a color wheel before,
but we tried to improve on it today.

Then we also made a color chart using the colors in our palette,
the primary colors, yellow, red and blue, and white and a brown.

Somehow I forgot to take a photo of their color charts.

This is my chart I did as an example.

Art camp is for students 10-14 and lasts four Wednesdays in a row for two hours.

Each week the students work on a different art concept and they also work on two 16: x 20" paintings during the four week period.

After Alex and Hannah made their color wheel and chart,
we began the really fun part and that is their paintings.

Alex and Hannah are putting in their suns on this interesting painting.

Now they are putting the orange around their sun.

These paintings gives the student the chance to see how color works next to each other,
how to blend,
how to use enough paint,
how to make big bold strokes,
and how to let go and have fun.

That's a hard part to do!

Don't try to be better than everyone else,
Don't try to be perfect,
Don't paint for me, but for you!

I hope these young ladies had as great a time as I did.

See you next week.

Why An Art Camp

Why An Art Camp?

  1. Not all kids fit into a sports camp.
  2. Students like creativity.
  3. All learning is relative.
  4. Creativity is fun.
  5. Creativity is transferable to other subject matter.
  6. Students are unplugged for several hours at a time.
  7. Students gain confidence.
  8. Students create things they can feel and see and remember.
  9. Students learn a lot of new art concepts.
  10. It's FUN!

In this fun painting, teens and tweens will learn use of color, color blending, brush strokes, composition, and to let go and make their tree using their own creativity.

Art camp begins this Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon and is for students 10-14 years old and continues for four Wednesdays in a row.  I have a few seats left and I would love for your students to have the opportunity to learn so many concepts and complete two full size paintings.  The above painting is 16" x 20" and your student will complete many drills, practices and the two paintings.

Leave me a comment or call me at 502-523-0663 if your child would like to attend.

So Far So Good

So Far - So Good

What a wild and crazy two days!
We had the ribbon cutting

And then,
we had a fabulous opening reception.

Food and Flowers,
some of my favorite things.
Thanks Joan for the beautiful flowers.

I went for a summertime picnic theme.
Neighbors, the Kunselmans brought me these beauties.

My brother Tim and my daughter Kari helped me out.

Mark and D'Anne Smith enjoying some goodies.
Me and Aidan talking about a painted gourd.

And the winners are. . .

Beth Ann Toombs was the first winner of the night and she selected the hydrangeas.

Top right is Jamie DuVall who selected the rooster painting.

Ruth Ann Hendrick (bottom left), oh wait, that's not Ruth Ann, that's Tim Hendrick who picked up Ruth Ann's painting of geraniums and daisies,
and bottom right is a real cutie, Katelyn Dukes who selected the sunflower painting.

Thanks again to everyone who came and enjoyed a wonderful evening.

But there's more!

Friday was our first lunch and learn and several people stopped by
to eat the lunch they brought while I did a demo of a geranium painting.

June Mefford and Debbie Gardner stopped in for the lunch and learn.

Debbie signed up for a painting class and June is thinking it over.

Don't you think she should join Debbie and take a class?

Hopefully you'll join us the 2nd Friday of August
for another episode of lunch and learn.

I learned I could still sort of paint after not painting for almost a month.

Stop is sometime,
I could be painting almost any day.

Thanks for stopping in today.

We Have Lift Off

Let the Fun Begin

So, today Bill Broberg, the owner of the building, turned it over to me,
and we began moving stuff in about 20 minutes later.

River Run Gallery and
Fun Art Studio
should open for business in a little over a week.

Track lighting goes in tomorrow, (Wednesday)
Art Hanging system is supposed to be delivered Thursday and will go up as soon as it gets here.
I'll start cleaning all that glass shelving and glass cubes tomorrow I was able to find.
Artists are signing up to join the gallery
and students are signing up to take classes.

Over a year ago I started thinking about this adventure.
It started as a thought, then a doodle, then a few ideas,
then a business plan started showing up in my thoughts.
How can I make this work?

I kept looking at this small little shop on Main St., in Carrollton, KY.
It was empty and had been empty for a while,
but,
there was no for rent sign and I didn't know who owned the building.
I actually did know who owned it,
but I didn't know I knew.

An interesting senior lady in Carrollton, Mary Broberg owned it.
She was a sweet fun loving lady with a twinkle in her eye.
Unfortunately,
she passed away in February of this year.
Then it passed to her son Bill and his lovely wife Maria.

She was herself an artist, a potter.
I've seen her work, it has lasted for over 50 years and is very good.
She taught art and I hope she would be proud of how her building is being used today.

The building has been in her family almost since it was built,
around the beginning of the 20th century.

It has charm, and beauty and character,
just like her.

And now,

it has new life.

Look at all that beauty in that small package.

Please join me for a ribbon cutting, Wednesday, July 9 at noon,
and for a grand opening reception Thursday, July 10, 6-8 p.m.

Our first event will be Friday, July 11, at noon.
I'll host a lunch and learn where you can bring your brown bag lunch and sit
and watch an art demo while you eat.

I'll have this the second Friday of every month at noon
and it's free.

Let's have lunch.
