Let It Snow!

This Just In From Perry Park

Six women are reported
to have been painting snowmen
in the RAIN!

Yes, our Perry Park Paintsters
painted in the garage of a member of this
fearless group as it poured just outside the open door.

The groups painting choice for this month
was a snow covered blue spruce
and a well dressed snowman
on a slate roofing shingle.

Neither rain, nor storm, nor snarled traffic kept this devoted paintster from her appointed class.

Learning how to paint trees was harder than expected,
but Shirley would not be defeated by a blue spruce.

Pamela steadies her hand as she painted this cute snowman's hat.

And here are the finished snowmen,
painted on slate shingles.

These are fun and easy to paint on.

Your next opportunity to paint a snowman of your very own, will be Wednesday, October 14, 10-noon.
The class is $35 and I supply everything you need to complete the project.

If you want in on the fun,
email me at slgraves6@gmail.com
and put painting class in the subject line.

Thanks for stopping by today,
and sorry I ate so many of your snacks paintsters.

Drawing On Their Patience

Drawing Takes Patience

Learning to draw takes patience.
Just ask these ladies as they study drawing
in a six-week beginning drawing course.

Before class instructor Jeremy Cobb looks at the practice Lisa did at home.  Lisa had done several drawings she was working on and Jeremy was helping her see the success she was having.

D'anne and Jeremy looking over her practice drawings.

Drawing, just like any other skill improves with practice.  It doesn't really matter what you draw, it's learning to see what you're looking at.  Learning to see the shape, the highlights and shadows, and the depth perception.  Then practice, practice, practice.

Many artists carry a small sketchbook with them and while waiting in the car line, waiting for a game to start and many other places while waiting, draw what they see.  It is good practice.

I have some friends who paint in the car while their spouse drives.
That's dedication and the ability to not get car sick.

Class is in session and these artists listen intently as Jeremy goes over some of the terms in drawing.

Jeremy is offering single classes in drawing as well.

Thursday, Sept. 24 from 3-5 p.m. Jeremy will be teaching this still life drawing.  In this class you will learn to see shapes, how to draw an elipse, how to draw shadows, the perspective of the apple in front of the jar
and many other art concepts.
The one day class is $30 and you will need a set of varied graphite pencils, a kneaded eraser, a pencil sharpener, and a sketchbook, no smaller than 11" x 14".  Supplies can be purchased at Carrollton Office Supply, Fifth St., Carrollton.

I have a great online painting course for you!
 Painting With Acrylics 101
was created for the beginning painter.
I walk you through step by step in understanding paint, brushes, brush strokes, how to make color wheels and color charts and what you learn from them.  You'll learn about perspective and composition, how to practice and then. . .

. . .Then you'll learn how to paint the two paintings shown above.
You'll also receive several bonuses including shopping lists of art supplies and where to look for them and a step by step tutorial for how to paint trees and rocks.

Everything you need to learn to paint
is in one place.

You won't need to figure it all out for yourself.
It's all here in one course just waiting for you.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Learning to Draw Fabric Folds

Conceal and Reveal

This class was all about not just the fabric and it's many folds, but it is also about the box underneath the fabric.
The point of the drawing is to show the box underneath by drawing the fabric on top.

This is how our drawing instructor began the drawing,
with a very light sketch.

Jeremy had a totally different vantage point as he was standing looking down on a box draped in fabric and we were all sitting down looking up at the set-up.

You can watch a short video of some of his instruction.

This is where his drawing was at the end of the class.

This was an example of drawing fabric.

In this conceal and reveal, the box is concealed by the fabric, and it is also revealed by the fabric.

How cool it that?

Here is a very simple still life that will be the basis for a single drawing class for Thursday, Sept., 24, 3-5 p.m.
You will need a set of graduated size graphite pencils, a kneaded eraser, a pencil sharpener and a sketch book, no smaller than 11" x 14".  A beginners art kit has been put together by Carrollton Office Supply and if you tell them it is for this class, you will get a discount.
Please leave me a comment here if you would like to participate in this class.

My online beginning painting course is now available at
This course has been designed with the beginning painter in mind as it walks you through color, paint, brushes, creating form, perspective, composition and then takes all that knowledge and puts into step by step instructions to complete two paintings.

The introductory price is only good until Nov. 1, 2015,
so head on over there and give it a look.

This would make a terrific Christmas gift for anyone who would like to learn to use acrylic paint.
Yep!

Pumpkin Slates

Pumpkin Slates?

What are pumpkin slates?
Well, I have acquired some slate roofing shingles,
they used to actually be the shingles on buildings at the beginning of the 20th century.

They have two holes in each where they were nailed onto a roof, they are gray in color and are so fun to paint on.

Here's a little video of what craziness when on in the gallery today.

We had lots of giggles and goofiness
as we painted two pumpkins on each slate.

Now check out the finished product.

 Check out these gorgeous girls
and their super duper pumpkins.

I'll be teaching this same class, Thursday, Sept.17,
6-8 p.m. $35.

We'll be painting another fall slate on
Wednesday, Sept. 23, 10-noon.  This one involves pumpkins and a Scarecrow.

Don't forget to go and check out my new online beginning painting course at https://www.paintingwithacrylics101.com.
Be on the look out for a few free videos from the course so you can see how it works.

Thanks for stopping by today,
and let the paint force be with you.

Weather Report

Partly Cloudy and A Chance of Art

Tuesday night the advanced drawing course met
to learn about pastel charcoal
and how to draw clouds, trees, barns, silos,
and other landscape items.

We started off the class with instructor Jeremy Cobb
introducing us to pastel charcoal.
Boy, that stuff can be messy,
but it is so interesting to work with.

This is getting close to being done but not quite!

Next he taught us how to draw clouds.
Clouds are hard to paint,
but I think they are harder to draw.

Jeremy is working on blue paper
and that cloud just pops!

Jeremy said he might just throw in a barn.

He did a pretty super job of throwing in that barn,
for a city kid.  hehehehehe

This is where he was at the end of class

.
Julie, a student and Jeremy's sister was drawing along with him.
We know,
she's an over achiever!

Great job.

Now we all have to do our own landscape.

Can't wait to see how they turn out.

Please contact me if you would like in on a beginning art course,
or. . .
we'll be having one night classes in the very near future.

Giving Birth

I Did It!

It's been months in the making,
but it's finally here.

I recently gave birth to an
online beginning painting course.

and it is 11 modules long.

 I know!

Isn't that just the cutest little online beginning painting course you've ever seen.

I'll show you more in the future
as I recover and
regain my girlish figure back.
(Ok, that's never gonna happen).

But anyway,
you can check it all out
