Learning to Draw Fabric Folds

Conceal and Reveal

This class was all about not just the fabric and it's many folds, but it is also about the box underneath the fabric.
The point of the drawing is to show the box underneath by drawing the fabric on top.

This is how our drawing instructor began the drawing,
with a very light sketch.

Jeremy had a totally different vantage point as he was standing looking down on a box draped in fabric and we were all sitting down looking up at the set-up.

You can watch a short video of some of his instruction.

This is where his drawing was at the end of the class.

This was an example of drawing fabric.

In this conceal and reveal, the box is concealed by the fabric, and it is also revealed by the fabric.

How cool it that?

Here is a very simple still life that will be the basis for a single drawing class for Thursday, Sept., 24, 3-5 p.m.
You will need a set of graduated size graphite pencils, a kneaded eraser, a pencil sharpener and a sketch book, no smaller than 11" x 14".  A beginners art kit has been put together by Carrollton Office Supply and if you tell them it is for this class, you will get a discount.
Please leave me a comment here if you would like to participate in this class.

My online beginning painting course is now available at
This course has been designed with the beginning painter in mind as it walks you through color, paint, brushes, creating form, perspective, composition and then takes all that knowledge and puts into step by step instructions to complete two paintings.

The introductory price is only good until Nov. 1, 2015,
so head on over there and give it a look.

This would make a terrific Christmas gift for anyone who would like to learn to use acrylic paint.
Yep!
I just said the C word.

  1. I found this to be so interesting. You really have set up a wonderful place for artists. Especially encouraging to the beginner so they get off on the right foot! And here is intermediate me - fascinated watching the video too. Always something to learn.
    Thanks Sharon.

  2. Thank you so much Julie. I feel so lucky that I not only get to teach but I also get to sit at the feet of a truly talented artist in Jeremy and improve my drawing skills every day. It's hard to get the idea across that this is a real learning art gallery, but I am so glad you get it. Thank you for your comment.
